As a precaution, classes were canceled at Crosby High School on March 5 after a mercury spill in a classroom. The AC was also turned off to prevent vapors from spreading throughout and causing harm to the students and staff. A female student brought the vial of mercury to class and accidentally spilled it. Contrary to previous assumptions, it wasn’t for a class or a science lab, so it’s not clear why a student would bring such material to school.
Members of the “HAZ MAT” team came to the school to assess the situation and contain the hazardous chemical.
Michael Joseph, the superintendent of Crosby ISD, reports that every one is safe.
